Odisha, January 16, 2024:
In a surprising turn of events, the Government of Odisha declared a state-wide public holiday on January 17 (Wednesday) for the Shree Jagannath Parikrama project in Puri. The initiative includes essential amenities for pilgrims visiting the Jagannath temple, ranging from parking areas to a newly built road. However, Ramadevi Women’s University contradicted this decision.
Despite the government’s announcement of the holiday, Ramadevi Women’s University issued an official notice insisting that the university would remain open on the said date. The notice cited the need for NAAC preparedness, the Biswa Odia Bhasa Sammilani, and Intra-University Odia Literary Competitions and Conference as reasons to keep offices and departments operational.
This conflicting stance has created a stir, with the university urging staff members to attend without fail, while the state government has officially communicated the closure of all government schools, colleges, and offices. The clash raises questions about coordination between state directives and university autonomy in scheduling activities. Further developments are awaited as the situation unfolds.
